I am a big quotations fan and add the at the beginning and end of whatever I write. They have such encapsulated wisdom and illustrate that the greatest eloquence comes within brevity. I am often challenged in expressing things briefly and that might be part of the reason I am so drawn to the way quotes express the "art of living" in powerful one or two liners. Here are a few more favorite quotes and ideas for inspired living.
It took me a long time not to judge myself through someone else's eyes." ~Sally Field
A successful person is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him or her."
~David Brinkley,
We evaluate our own worth based on cues we receive from others. In other words, we look to others to establish who we are, how we should behave and how we're valued even though this societal reflection is not an accurate perception of who we really are. To believe in yourself is to recognize the true who of you--your core being--your true worth. Believing in yourself is a survival skill. You need to feel worthwhile. You need to believe that YOU can affect situations in your life so you can gain the confidence and courage to face the challenges of life. Take personal responsibility now--choose your thoughts--change your attitude and decide to believe in yourself and you will attract a happier life and feel a sense of freedom and independence.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small doesn't serve the world. We were born to make manifest the love and light of Source that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
~Marianne Williamson
"Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent."
~Eleanor Roosevelt
I believe that the very purpose of life is to be happy. From the very core of our being, we desire contentment. In my own limited experience I have found that the more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being. Cultivating a close, warmhearted feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease. It helps remove whatever fears or insecurities we may have and gives us the strength to cope with any obstacles we encounter. It is the principal source of success in life. Since we are not solely material creatures, it is a mistake to place all our hopes for happiness on external development alone. The key is to develop inner peace.”
~ The Dalai Lama
